Research & Studies
Research and study activities within the Generative AI project aim to deepen the understanding of online hate speech across the Euro-Mediterranean area.
By analysing similarities and differences between European and Southern Mediterranean contexts, these studies provide meaningful insights to support youth work, prevention strategies, and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.
Comparative Study on Online Hate Speech in the Euro-Mediterranean Area
The research activities carried out within the Generative AI project provide a foundational understanding of how online hate speech emerges, evolves, and affects young people across the Euro-Mediterranean area.
The study examines hate speech narratives, targets, and dynamics in different national contexts, highlighting both shared patterns and context-specific characteristics. Across countries, similar groups are disproportionately targeted, including ethnic minorities, migrants, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, activists, and political minorities.
The analysis shows that online hate speech is closely connected to broader social and political tensions and that young people are among the most exposed groups. At the same time, the study highlights youth awareness, resilience, and engagement in counter-speech, education, and collective responses.
The findings of this research form the basis for the project’s training activities, educational resources, and the development of digital tools, including the mobile application and the Social Hackathon.

Research and Study of New AI tools and benefits of AI in youth work
As part of the project activities, a research and study process was carried out to explore how Artificial Intelligence can support youth work in addressing online hate speech and strengthening young people’s digital awareness.
The activity focused on understanding opportunities and risks linked to the use of AI in youth work, with particular attention to inclusion, ethical considerations, and the protection of young people’s rights.
The insights gathered through this activity contributed to shaping a shared perspective on how technology can be used responsibly in youth engagement contexts.
