When Democracy Meets Generative AI: Our Project at All Digital Weeks 2025

On 2 April 2025, the Erasmus+ project “Generative AI – Youth Sector Challenges and Impact” took part in the webinar “La democrazia nella rete, la rete per la democrazia: dati, intelligenza artificiale e uguaglianza nelle politiche eurounitarie”, organised within All Digital Weeks 2025.

Invited by Stati Generali dell’Innovazione, the project coordinator team — Associazione Caleidoscopio presented, for the first time in Italy, the comparative research on Hate Speech and Generative Artificial Intelligence carried out across Italy, France, Belgium, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan.
This research explores how generative AI shapes online discourse and digital participation, identifying both the potential for positive engagement and the risks associated with bias, discrimination, and the spread of online hate speech.

During the webinar — which brought together experts, practitioners and young people interested in digital democracy — the presentation focused on how we can responsibly integrate AI into digital ecosystems while safeguarding democratic values and equality. Participants discussed the importance of empowering young people with critical thinking skills and ethical frameworks to navigate AI-driven platforms.
Being part of this All Digital Weeks session allowed the project to contribute to a broader European conversation on the role of technology in democratic participation and to share its insights with a wide public audience.
