When AI Meets Youth Voices: A Training Day on Hate Speech at EmigrArte Erasmus+ Youth Excxhange
How can young people use artificial intelligence to better understand — and counter — hate speech?
This question guided a one-day training on AI and hate speech delivered on 3 October 2025 in Paola, during the EmigrArte Erasmus+ youth exchange.
Within a creative and intercultural environment, the session opened a space for reflection on how digital tools shape online conversations and young people’s experiences.
The training was facilitated by the European project team formed by Caleidoscopio, AVEC (France) and EuroMed EVE Belgium, which joined the exchange to introduce the project “Generative AI – Youth Sector Challenges and Impact” and share its goals and early insights on the relationship between generative AI and online hate. Participants explored how technology can amplify harmful narratives — but also how it can support awareness, dialogue and positive change.
The session combined discussion and hands-on experimentation. Young people and youth workers engaged with the project’s app, testing its features and imagining how it could be used in real youth work contexts. The focus was not on technical skills alone, but on critical thinking, responsibility and ethical choices in digital spaces.
The exchange became a moment of collective learning. Ideas, questions and feedback emerging from the session will inform the ongoing development of the app, ensuring it reflects young people’s voices and adapts to different cultural contexts.
