From International Innovation to Local Engagement: Generative AI Takes Centre Stage in Paola
On 18 and 19 June 2026, Paola (Italy) became a meeting point for young innovators, experts, youth workers and institutional representatives from six countries across Europe and the Mediterranean. The International Social Hackathon Together for the Future brought together 38 finalists developing AI-powered solutions against online hate speech and misinformation, with Tunisia securing first place, followed by Morocco and Italy. The Italian team, Digital Conscience, earned third place with its project SafeSpace AI.
The event culminated in “A tu per tu con l’AI”, a public gathering in Piazza del Popolo that brought discussions on digital citizenship, social media and responsible AI directly into the local community. The media coverage also featured the perspective of Caleidoscopio President and International Project Coordinator Serena Francesca Mecca, highlighting the importance of connecting international cooperation, education and technological innovation with active community participation.
